Lettington takes on Ragbrai

Growing up in Iowa gives us a unique perspective. A perspective learned through hard work, grit, and late nights in the fields during planting and harvest season. We are a people who know what the power of prayer really can do, and are always willing to jump in to help another in need, even if you do not know them.

The outpouring of love for the Lettington family has been amazing, and donations raised for Loren, his beautiful wife Megan and their two small children have been truly outstanding. $3000 dollars was raised in a matter of two weeks. People from all over the world showed they have a little Iowan inside their hearts as they gave during the Christmas season. However, I am writing to update the readers on Loren and his progress, and let you know of another opportunity to give back to the community.

“Tougher than Most,” is the motto around the Lettington household, as Loren and his family face the challenges of his horrific accident. Loren and Megan just arrived back to Chicago after a trip to the west coast. They made the trip so Loren could receive a stem cell treatment. Megan stated, “Obviously nothing significant has happened yet. There is a tingle sensation everywhere and he is feeling warmer than usual. Normally, he has been very cold. We are hoping to be able to go back every three months for treatments.”  Loren is still receiving therapy, and enjoying spending time with the kiddos. They are a steadfast, strong and determined bunch.  Not unlike the Ragbrai participants who take time every year to ride across this beautiful state. Their legs pumping pedals, their veins bleeding strength, and their sweat pouring pride.

Thursday July 25, 2013 Ragbrai will be passing right by Loren and Megan’s home on the Bussey Highway (G71). Therefore, the family would like to invite all for the celebration of strength and courage to the event. There will be water and nourishment for the riders and attendees.  There will be a free will donation set up and the family would like an opportunity to cheer on the bike riders who can easily understand the label, “Tougher than Most.”  We know the ride across Iowa is fun, entertaining, but it is also not easy. Therefore, come out and enjoy a cold drink, stop and stretch, and give some of that strength in numbers to the Lettington family through prayer, good will, and some encouragement.

This blog still has the donation button available if you cannot make it to the event. Please, if you can, give what you can, pray and know that your donations no matter how big or small are truly needed, cherished, and each contributor is fervently prayed over by the recipients. We are asked by Christ to be good stewards of His gracious gifts and of men. Therefore, we want you to know that 100% of the proceeds to the fundraiser go to Loren and his family, and that every single one of you are loved, respected and we pray for you and yours each day. May God bless you and keep you in His loving embrace as this wonderful family embraces their new reality. Please, use that Iowan spirit and give more than most, love more than most, pray more than most, and ride harder than most because we are TOUGHER THAN MOST.
