Time to Get Clean with SOAP & WATER

Gavin and I have begun formalized training to serve in ministry. We feel called to pursue this route in even though we do not know where God is leading. Jesus said  "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind'; and, 'Love your neighbor as yourself.'"  (Luke 10:27) Therefore to better prepare and strengthen our hearts, souls, bodies, and minds, we are embarking on a 21-day quest to get clean. Although we know there is no empirical evidence supporting the 21-day habit theory, we understand creating time-bound goals are more achievable. Thus, we will be focusing on getting clean with a little SOAP & WATER over the next 21-days.
So what do we mean by getting clean with SOAP & WATER?
SOAP is a method of studying the Bible in which daily you study the Word of God and connect to your Savior. This is not a new acronym and has been around in the church community for a while. It is meant to nourish and prepare your heart and soul for the work God is calling you to do.
  • Scripture (a daily passage to study)
  • Observation (what stands out to you in the passage of Scripture)
  • Application (how you can apply that to your life)
  • Prayer (have a conversation with God)

WATER is something Gavin and I created as we were planning this cleansing process. It is meant to strengthen our bodies and minds so we can physically and mentally do the work of the Father, love others better, and love ourselves more.
  • Workout (5x a week we will do something active)
  • Accountability (we will be holding one another accountable)
  • Thankful for Today (we will be in the present, and focus on the things we are thankful for in this day, and not worry about tomorrow)
  • Eating (we will follow a no sugar no grain lifestyle)
  • Rest and reflect (we will focus on getting rest and reflecting on our SOAP & WATER)
We would love to have you join us on this journey, so if you are ready to get clean follow/subscribe and we will connect. Please pray for us as we continue to trust Him to lead us through the next 21-days and beyond. God bless you all!

How Do We Say Goodbye?

How do you say goodbye  to a spirit bigger than most,  and loved by all? By remembering what he did and who he was.  He wrestled.  He was a man who pinned opponents to the mat with power, strength, and fire,  yet always ended with a handshake, eyes steady, dignity intact. He rode.  A man who rode bulls for a living, chasing dust and danger,  his raw talent and fierce determination recognized long before the buckles came. He lived. He was a man who lived with integrity,  stood up for others with the heart of a hero and felt  the power of the Holy Spirit when he gave his life to Jesus.  He loved.  He was a man who loved his son and his family with a passion second only to the love of our Savior.  He was a friend who simply showed up every time he said he would and even when you didn’t ask him to. A man who gave his whole heart, his time, and his hugs to those lucky enough to love him. So how do we say goodbye? We wrestle.  W...

What a BALDLY Beautiful Day!

Today is a day of goodness and joy, not of despondency and fear. A day when I was blessed to wake up next to my best friend of thirty years, in a home that God has helped us build, filled with love and hope. A day to be thankful for all the ways our compassionate Father shows His faithfulness, and another opportunity for His love to transform and deepen my relationship with Jesus.  Going bald is a side effect of chemotherapy, and it is one I kept pushing down the road on this breast cancer journey as much as I could. The hair has been falling out for weeks, and the loss intensified after the third chemotherapy round. The handfuls of hair coming out in the shower were scary at first, and then as the nausea grew worse with the medicine, the more overwhelming it felt. Gavin had to comb and remove as much as he could on days I was really nauseated while I kept my eyes shut. However,  something I never knew was the actual pain involved when the hair follicles are dying, and the wei...

Held by Jesus When the Treatment Ends

Today is one full of emotions as we navigate the next steps in cancer care. We went in for my weekly chemotherapy appointment today and chatted with my fellow pink sisters in the waiting room. It is amazing how connected you become when you are trudging through the same dark valley and realize those sweet shared stories are the light that keeps you going some days. When I was called back, one of my phenomenal nurses, Jenny, accessed my port and shared the good news of her recent engagement and Christmas plans. My other nurse, Lucy, came over to say hi and see how I was doing. These two women are truly some of the most amazing humans I have ever met. They serve in a tough area of care and never make you feel like they have been hardened. Their compassion, expertise, and skill in caring for their patients clearly show the love of Jesus in one of the seemingly most bleak areas of healthcare. No one wants to be there, but I appreciated that each week I would get to see these two beautiful ...
